Republican leaders continue to express worry that Governor Kathy Hochul isn’t the moderate upstate Democrat she once was.
As she served as Governor Cuomo’s lieutenant governor, she started to adopt the more progressive policies, and some show concern that will continue as she serves as governor.
Rob Ortt, State Senate Minority Leader, stated that her choice of Sen. Brian Benjamin as Lt. Gov. is concerning and that Benjamin is on the wrong side of the issue surrounding criminal justice reform.
He is concerned she will double down on policies that Ortt believes have made New Yorker’s less safe.
He referenced her choice to not include members of other parties, making it clear she is choosing to not be a bipartisan leader.
