Steuben County experienced incredibly damaging flood last week, but locations along Tuscarora Creek were hit the hardest.
Woodhull, Jasper, and Addison had extensive damage, including the H.P. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Woodhull.
Owner, Mike Smith, said the floodwater destroyed the walls and carpets and filled the basement and garage, where the hearse is located.
He is unsure if the funeral home can be repaired for use.
Lynn’s Main Street Market and Deli in Woodhull filled with about four feet of water according to owner Lynn Brewer. She just purchased the business July 18 of this year.
In total, 550 homes and businesses sustained damage in Steuben County, the majority being in Jasper, Woodhull, and Addison.
The Jasper-Troupsburg Central School sustained so much damage they school will likely not open this fall.
105 bridges are in need of inspection due to the flooding.
