The wildest finish came on the boys side, where East Rochester edged Lyons by a single point in overtime, while the Newark girls rallied after surrendering a double-digit lead, knocking down a three at the buzzer to force overtime before pulling out a three-point victory over Bloomfield.

Newark (10-7) 52
The Panthers led by three at halftime, but the Reds opened the second half on a 15-4 run to build an eight-point advantage. Geneva answered by trimming the deficit to one entering the final eight minutes, and the teams traded leads throughout the fourth quarter before the Panthers took a 52-49 lead with 22 seconds remaining. Jahnor Allen had a chance to pull Newark within one with a pair of free throws but converted only one. Kaden Larsen was then intentionally fouled and made both attempts, pushing Geneva’s lead to four. Newark quickly responded with a Terrell Jenkins layup to cut the margin to 54-52 with 11 seconds left. Larsen was fouled again and split a pair at the line, giving Newark a chance to tie with a three-pointer, but Jenkins’ attempt from the top of the key missed. Larsen added one more free throw in the closing seconds to seal the four-point victory and complete the season sweep of Newark.

Lyons (15-2) 68
East Rochester (11-4) 69
Overtime
The Lions led by as many as 11 points in the third quarter and held an eight-point advantage with just under three minutes remaining in regulation. The Bombers answered with an 8-0 run in roughly 90 seconds, tying the game at 65 with one minute left. Lyons had three chances to regain the lead, including a final possession in the closing seconds, but Stephen LeBrecht’s jumper rimmed out, sending the game to overtime. Offense was hard to come by in the extra period, as the teams combined for only seven points. East Rochester did not score until the final 23 seconds, when the Bombers tied the game at 67. Moments later, Stephen LeBrecht was fouled with 4.2 seconds remaining and converted the first free throw. After a timeout by head coach Zac Young, LeBrecht intentionally missed the second attempt which missed the rim, allowing the Bombers one final opportunity. Noah Wollschleger launched a full-court pass toward a teammate, but Lyons’ Jamire Johnson jumped in front of it, tipping the ball under the basket directly to a wide-open Ray Allen. Allen caught the tip and laid it in off the glass for the game-winner, giving East Rochester a season split with Lyons after dropping the first meeting December 19 and snapping the Lions’ 10-game win streak.
