St. Ann’s Church in Hornell is getting an exterior renovation.
Our Lady of the Valley Parish Business Manager Donna Haraty said the issue was with the bricks in the building causing moisture problems. She said as they started working, more problems were discovered.
There are water issues in the gutter system, wood has rotted away, and all brick needed to be removed to replace the gutter system.
The church has been standing since 1869 and has had three additions in its time.
Haratay believes it’s been many decades since any work has been done on the church, and last June renovations began.
The job became a two-phase event after realizing it needed far more work than originally anticipated.
The church has been saving funds for the renovations.
