Elmira Police Department says illegal firearms are becoming an issue with two incidents so far this month

Elmira Police Department is saying they have seen an increase in illegal firearms recently.

This month alone officers confiscated illegal firearms on two occasions.

On Monday, August 2, officers pulled a driver over of Sly Street around 9 p.m. and found that the driver’s license was suspended. During the stop a loaded weapon was uncovered from the vehicle.


On Wednesday, August 4, around 9:20 p.m. a driver was pulled over on East Church Street where the driver was found to have a suspended registration and license. After getting a warrant a loaded firearm was found in a lock box inside the vehicle.

Both incidents are currently under investigation with charges pending.
