Local counties are included in the new eviction moratorium that lasts until October 3rd.
Counties include Monroe, Seneca, Tompkins, Erie, Niagara and Onondaga and are what the CDC considers “substantial” or “high” transmission areas.
The moratorium focuses on these areas as well as areas with low vaccination rates.
Democratic Rep. Cori Bush had slept on the steps of the Capitol since Friday to bring attention to the issue and lengthen the time renters have before being evicted.
$46.5 billion in rental assistance was approved by Congress but local governments and cities have failed to distribute the money in a timely fashion and the White House is looking into it.
