A second member of the Walworth Town Board was taken into custody on charges related to sex crimes against children following a multi-agency investigation.
Cody Phillips, 39, of Walworth was charged with one count of course of sexual conduct against a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He’s accused of subjecting a child to multiple instances of sexual contact over the course of several years.
New York State Police led this investigation, but was assisted by Ontario County Child Protective Services and the Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes. It is unknown if there may be additional victims, but anyone with information is asked to contact Investigator Matthew Kent at 585-398-4100.
Phillips has been a member of the Walworth Town Board- and marks the second arrest in such an incident over the last 30 days.
Town Supervisor Susie Jacobs said in a statement that she was notified of the arrest, but that town government was continuing to work for the people.
“I was just made aware of serious allegations against town Board member Cody Phillips,” the statement begins. “At this time, law enforcement is currently investigating the matter. As details become available, I may have additional comments, but I have nothing further to say on this matter at this time.”
She continued in the statement, “Please rest assured that your Town is continuing to serve you, it’s residents, and all departments are running smoothly. Your dedicated town employees continue to work hard for you. It is especially important that we deal with these issues in our community, we come together as friends and neighbors and support each other. Together we will move forward.”
Earlier this month, Karl Ambroz was taken into custody by police in Canandaigua for attempted criminal sex act after allegedly using social media to lure and engage in sexual activity with a 14-year-old victim.
Ambroz resigned from the town board and was removed as fire chief in Walworth.
