New York State lawmaker suggests a bill that would pay $1200 for returning to work

Republican state Sen. Ed Rath has introduced legislation in an attempt to convince New York residents to rejoin the workforce.

After four weeks of employment an individual would receive $1200.

Sen. Rath stated that the 15 months of unemployment was necessary, but now employers are in desperate need of employees. He hopes this idea will get people to go back to work.

Legislation has finished for the year but Rath is hopeful the bill will be picked up if lawmakers return in the summer.

The Department of Labor has been reminding people on unemployment that it’s a requirement to be searching for a job at least three days a week, unless the unemployment was due to Covid and the person was told by their company they would be rehired when the business reopened.
