Deputies say an investigation into a car-bicycle crash that happened on State Route 31 over the weekend remains open as of Monday.
On Sunday around 2 p.m. deputies were called to a crash where Jose Figueroa, 60, of Lyons was traveling west on Route 31 when Adrian Sergeant, 25, of Lyons was riding a bicycle- also traveling westbound on Route 31.
Multiple witnesses stated that the bicyclist was traveling on the north shoulder of the road- then traveled into the westbound lane of traffic. Those witnesses state that Figueroa attempted to avoid striking Sergeant, but could not do so.
Sergeant was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with injuries to his head, back, hip, and foot.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Marbletown Fire Department, Newark Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, Eastern Wayne Ambulance, and New York State Police.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
