Investigators with the Yates County Sheriff’s Office say a Bath woman was cited after a horse-and-buggy crash during the early morning hours on Thursday.
It happened on State Rt. 54 when Melissa Carney was traveling east in the town of Benton. Her vehicle struck a horse-and-buggy traveling in the same direction.
The 20-year-old, who was from Penn Yan, was thrown from the carriage, and treated at the scene.
The horse died from the crash.
Carney was cited for failing to use due care while approaching a horse and will answer that charge at a later date in local court.
The Sheriff’s Office says glare from the sun and following too closely were contributors to the accident.
