Sheriff Brian Schenck says a 31-year-old Springport man faces a number of charges after a rape investigation in the town of Brutus.
The investigation began with the report that a 31-year-old male, identified as Justin Mariani, engaged in non-consensual sex with a 17-year-old female victim from Auburn.
Through the course of the investigation, another victim and incident was identified. The second victim was a 22-year-old Auburn woman, who was attacked by Mariani in April.
On Wednesday, deputies arrested Mariani, charging him with two counts of rape. Both of the victims were known to Mariani, but the incidents were unrelated, according to investigators.
Sheriff Schenck says Mariani was arraigned and held without bail. He will appear in Auburn City Court and Brutus Town Court to answer the charges.
He asks that anyone with information regarding the incidents contact his office at 315-253-6562.
