The firefighter that was seriously hurt in a training exercise in Montour Falls at a training facility has died.
A family member told CNYCentral that 21-year-old Peyton Morse, a Watertown firefighter, died from injuries sustained in a training incident.
The incident occurred at the New York State Fire Academy in Montour Falls on March 3. Family members said that Morse was sent to a hospital in Pennsylvania.
He was initially listed in critical condition.
Morse experienced a medical emergency during the training- and was transported by emergency vehicle. Reporting by WWNY indicates that there was difficulty getting an ambulance there in a timely manner.
A state-owned van transported Morse to the hospital after becoming unresponsive.
The state instructors have been removed, according to officials, pending the outcome of an investigation.
Family members say the support they’ve received from around New York has been overwhelming.
The Watertown Firefighters Benevolent Facebook page has announced a spaghetti dinner fundraiser and an online fund page to support Peyton and his family’s expenses. Donations can be made by clicking here.
