Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand says she supports an independent investigation into the claims leveled against Gov. Andrew Cuomo over the last week.
A sixth individual came forward this week, alleging that Cuomo harassed her.
Gillibrand didn’t say that Cuomo should resign, as many other lawmakers have, but doubled-down on a thorough investigation.
Top Democrats have said that the governor should resign.
“I admire Andrea Stewart-Cousins and I think she understands the serious nature of these allegations, and she has every right to give her judgement on this issue, as any other elected leader does,” Gillibrand during a press conference. “I think she’s absolutely in her right to do whatever she wants to do in this. She is also leader of the Senate, and as I said in my first response on this issue, it will be up to the legislature on how to deal with this.”
She called the allegations ‘very serious’.
