Local lawmakers are calling for an independent investigation into allegations of sexual harassment involving Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
He’s been accused of harassing Lindsey Boylan, who worked in his administration for more than three years. Cuomo “would go out of his way to touch me on my lower back, arms and legs,” she wrote. The Governor is also accused of king that Boylan looked like one of his ex-girlfriends, and that the two should play strip poker.
Another allegation in the piece Boylan wrote about her experience in the Cuomo Administration, which was published on Medium, added that he once kissed her on the lips without consent after a private meeting.
“As I got up to leave and walk toward an open door, he stepped in front of me and kissed me on the lips. I was in shock, but I kept walking,” Boylan wrote. “The idea that someone might think I held my high-ranking position because of the Governor’s ‘crush’ on me was more demeaning than the kiss itself.”
Assemblyman Harry Bronson, a Democrat, issued the following statement about the allegations:
“As a former employee rights attorney, I have represented far too many women who have been subjected to sexual harassment in the workplace. These claims always need to be taken seriously and women need to be supported as they bring allegations forward. All allegations of sexual harassment must be given a thorough and independent investigation. Now that Ms. Boylan has put these claims forward, she deserves the opportunity to have her allegations thoroughly reviewed by an independent body and any appropriate steps taken upon those findings.”
The Cuomo Administration has denied all of the allegations in the Medium piece. You can read it here.
Today I am telling my story. I never planned to share the details of my experience working in the Cuomo administration, but I am doing so now in hopes that it may make it easier for others to speak their own truth. https://t.co/n1Lcc6Ac66
