Syracuse women’s Kamilla Cardoso earns ACC Freshman of the Week honor

Syracuse’s Kamilla Cardoso is the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Freshman of the Week. Cardoso, a 6-foot-7 center from Montes Claros, Brazil, averaged a double double over the course of a three-game week for the Orange (7-3, 4-3 ACC). Cardoso averaged 11.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game while shooting 50 percent from the field (16-for-32). This marks the second-consecutive week a Syracuse player has garnered the award.

In the first game of the week, Cardoso had 10 points and a season-high 16 rebounds in a 88-76 win over North Carolina on Tuesday. She shot 55.6 percent from the field (5-for-9) and blocked fours hots. Against #1 Louisville on the road, Cardoso had 13 points, 11 rebounds and connected on 6-of-13 shots. In the final game of the week, the freshman center had 12 points and six rebounds while blocking six of Clemson’s shots.

Cardoso is the ACC leader in field goal percentage (.596), blocked shots per game (2.7) and offensive rebounds (3.6). She follows Priscilla Williams (Jan. 18) as the second-straight Orange to be named ACC Freshman of the Week.
