The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of the Finger Lakes and Central New York ahead of lake effect snow that is expected to bring a little accumulation over the next 24 hours.
The advisory runs until 1 p.m. on Saturday and includes Cayuga, Monroe, and Wayne counties. Altogether 4-8 inches of snow is expected, with wind gusts as high as 35 mph.
Those combined factors will make travel difficult in parts of the region as bands of lake effect snow set up. The NWS says that travel could be ‘very difficult’ as areas of falling and blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
Specifically, the evening commute could be impacted along parts of the Thruway corridor, as well as along Rts. 104 and 31. Be prepared for rapidly changing conditions, the NWS said in an update.
