Trumansburg school board leader steps down after comments about Capitol riot

Scott Sherwood, who before this week served as the president of the Trumansburg Central School District Board of Education, resigned after giving an emotional speech.

It came at a meeting on Monday, which was reported by The Ithaca Voice. Sherwood had posted to Facebook after the attack on the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. comparing that event to those that transpired over the summer involving Black Lives Matter protesters.

He deleted the post, which read in part, “While I certainly don’t agree with what went on in the [Capitol] today, it is notable that the protestors are leaving peacefully, nothing is burning, no cars of innocent people have been targeted, no businesses have been looted, and no police are being spit on.”
