Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Wednesday in his daily update that schools won’t be able to decide whether masks are required or not.
The Governor said that after being asked by downstate county leaders if counties could have the authority to make the decision on masking requirements inside school buildings – he agreed with the premise.
Now, counties will be able to mandate masks inside school buildings across New York.
However, most schools in the region already require masks from open to close with very limited exceptions.
The move follows growing numbers of cases in certain pockets of the state.
