Wednesday evening the Lyons Central School District announced that a instructional staff member from the elementary school tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Don Putnam said in a letter to the community that the district is working under the direction of the Wayne County Department of Health to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to support the school community.
“Under the direction of the Wayne County Department of Health, no additional actions are required on behalf of the District, as this staff member had minimal direct contact with students,” Putnam said in the letter. “Through their contact tracing efforts, the Department of Health has asked additional staff members to quarantine, as a precautionary measure. As a result, students might see a change in their academic schedule.”
This week the Clyde-Savannah Central School District was forced to close for two days, then transition to fully-remote instruction until next Wednesday due to a positive test.
“We recognize that this news will be concerning to some of our students and families. We ask that medical questions be directed to your family doctor/healthcare provider. Administrators are currently available through email to address your school questions and concerns,” Putnam continued. “This is a great example of the importance of following the safety protocols as outlined in our reopening plan. Thanks to our colleagues’ vigilant efforts to keep our school community safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19, we are able to continue to provide in-person instruction.”
Elementary students were instructed to bring Chromebooks and chargers back to school on Thursday.
