Contact tracing efforts underway after worker at Auburn elementary school tests positive for COVID-19

Officials in Cayuga County say a member of the Owasco Elementary School staff has tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19.

The person did not have any contact with students, according to public health officials.

They said in an update that contact tracing was taking place.

The person infected is in mandatory isolation since testing positive. The staffer worked in the school on Thursday, Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. It’s unclear at this point what other staff members may have come into contact with the worker, but contact tracing has started.

Students in Auburn have not yet attended fully in-person classes. During a conversation as part of our Back To School series, Superintendent Jeff Pirozzolo said that students wouldn’t go back until later in the semester.
