Confrontation in Newark neighborhood leads to fight, weapons charges for local residents

The Newark Police Department arrested two men after a confrontation in a Seigrist Street neighborhood.

Elfrain Valasquez, 58, of Newark was reportedly sitting on the sidewalk when a neighbor, identified as Adrian Santana, 27, came out and yelled at him to leave.

The two exchanged words before the altercation escalated to physical violence. During that incident, Santana is accused of grabbing a fire extinguisher – threatening to use it against Valasquez.

At some point later during the altercation, Valasquez turned and threatened Santana with a baseball bat.

Both were charged with second-degree harassment and criminal possession of a weapon. Both had previously been convicted on the latter charge.

The charges will be answered at a later date.
