A former aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo will be the next chancellor of the state’s 64-campus public college and university system.
Jim Malatras, who has served as a longtime advisor to the Governor, will succeed Kristina Johsnon, who left in June to take over Ohio’s state university system.
There has been crticisim in the lead-up to Malatras’s expected appointment by the SUNY Board of Trustees to the post, according to Spectrum News. The search process was deeply criticized.
He’s previously served as a vice chancellor for the SUNY system and worked in Cuomo’s attorney general office.
