NYSPHSA says seniors won’t be given extra eligibility, even if last season is ended by COVID-19

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association says seniors are not going to receive extra eligibility if their season is cancelled.

The idea was batted around after New Jersey developed a plan to give high school seniors an opportunity to compete one last season, even after finishing school.

Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas told the Journal News there has been some talk of extra eligibility, but that’s as far as they got.

The fall sports season has already been moved to begin on September 21st. It could be pushed later, or the season might be delayed until March if necessary.

If the season is cancelled – their high school careers will have come to a close.
