Police say a 36-year-old Auburn man was taken into custody after stabbing a 14-year-old girl on Tuesday.
The entire ordeal unfolded around 3:33 p.m. on Wall Street in the city.
James Scott, 36, of Auburn claimed the dog that the teen was holding belonged to him. In a press release, police said the girl threw the dog at Scott and punched him in self-defense as he moved toward her with the knife.
He was later located by police getting into a vehicle after fleeing the scene.
The girl, who was not identified as being known to Scott, was transported to Upstate University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
