Felony charge, several misdemeanors for Port Byron driver after crash outside of Auburn

Sheriff Brian Schenck reports that on Monday around 9:25 p.m. deputies responded to a crash on State Street Road in the Town of Throop.

Investigators determined that Ashley Gotham, 29, of Port Byron was traveling on State Street Road, or Route 38 when she left the roadway – striking a ditch.

The other occupant of the vehicle was a five-year-old child. Neither sustained any injuries, but Gotham was evaluated by a drug recognition expert and arrested on a number of charges.

Gotham was charged with driving without a license, failure to keep right, moving from lane unsafely, back seat passenger without a restraint, driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated DWI with a child, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The DWI charge was elevated to felony status due to there being a child in the car.

Sheriff Schenck says New York State Police and the Auburn Police Department assisted at the scene.
