A major summertime event in Canandaigua is still up in the air.
While a number of events around the region have been cancelled already for the summer – City Council is waiting to make a decision on Fourth of July festivities.
The parade, community picnic, live entertainment, and fireworks could be cancelled. If it is, it will create a $1.5 million hole in the City’s budget due to lost revenue.
The holiday event draws as many as 10,000 to the city, and costs approximately $35,000 to put on.
“Munich cancelled Oktoberfest, for crying out loud,” said Renée Sutton during the meeting. Other city officials, like City Manager John Goodwin, said they would await more information and guidance from the state.
