Grassroots has been cancelled.
For the last 30 years the annual festival has been a major event for Tompkins County. Organizers said in a message that it would be cancelled until July 2021.
“We come together several times a year in the spirit of music and community. What started as a benefit to support AIDS related causes, which has transformed into an engine for expression, creativity, education, and critically weighing the issues of our time,” organizers said. “This feels like one of these times this matters most. The GrassRoots Festival Organization is very grateful for generations of music lovers that have come together in this spirit. Thank you.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival will next be held July 22-25, 2021.
“The Health Department supports the proactive decision by the GrassRoots organization to promote social distancing and protect public health by postponing the Summer 2020 festival. This decision is consistent with our current guidance and that of the State to cancel large gatherings that have the potential to increase the spread of COVID-19. While it is unknown what the next few months will bring, we know the long-term planning involved with GrassRoots each year and we recognize the sacrifice and disappointment to many in our community who look forward to this annual event,” Frank Kruppa, Public Health Director, Tompkins County said.
Anyone who purchased festival tickets will be able to use their ticket for any future GrassRoots event. Those tickets will never expire. They can also be redeemed for the Shakori Hills Festivals in North Carolina. Camping passes will be automatically transferred to the 2021 rescheduled date. For those who may need the ticket or camping money, we’re committed to helping you connect with someone that may be able to purchase your ticket for the rescheduled event. The ticket trade group can be found here: Ticket Trade Facebook Group. This will help keep GrassRoots alive for the many years to come.
