Cuomo: Reopening economy needs to come with balance, forms multi-state coalition

New York and the states that border it announced the formation of a task force, which will be comprised of health and economic development officials to determine the best way to reopen the economy.

They will tackle the how and when questions, which have dominated Governor Andrew Cuomo’s daily press briefings.

New York is working with New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Pennslyvania, Massachusetts, and Delaware.

President Donald Trump said he wants to reopen the economy nationally, which drew criticism from some government experts — who say the decision lies with states.

President Trump disagrees, but noted he would work with governors across the U.S. to reopen the economy.

“We didn’t start with a time table. We’ve said to the group we want it ASAP, but we want it smart,” Cuomo said on Monday.

Officials want to balance the re-opening of the economy by also limiting new infections of the virus, which has now killed more than 10,000 people in New York alone.
