Two dozen officers furloughed, emergency staffing underway after positive COVID test at Wayne Co. Jail

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts reports the first confirmed case of the Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19 on his staff.

He said a corrections officer tested positive for COVID-19 and that precautions were being taken.

“I have furloughed with pay 24 correction officers and declared emergency staffing scheduling,” Sheriff Virts said in a tweet confirming the news.

He says no other inmates or officers have COVID-19 symptoms at this time.
