Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts reports the first confirmed case of the Novel Coronavirus, or COVID-19 on his staff.
He said a corrections officer tested positive for COVID-19 and that precautions were being taken.
“I have furloughed with pay 24 correction officers and declared emergency staffing scheduling,” Sheriff Virts said in a tweet confirming the news.
He says no other inmates or officers have COVID-19 symptoms at this time.
