NYS unemployment website crashes, goes down on Monday due to volume of users

When Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that more state residents would be eligible for unemployment amid the Coronavirus outbreak he was applauded for the decision.

Changes were made to the system. Among the changes was the waiving of a 7-day wait period.

The New York Times reported that due to volume people were having trouble getting through on the phone.

Then, the website began crashing.

If you’re unemployed, you can apply from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

The website appeared to be working on Tuesday, but that was before volume was expected to increase again on Tuesday as those who were laid off in the service industry file claims.
