Nurses in New York State are asking for more protections, as the novel coronavirus spreads.
The State Nurses Association is asking the federal government to set temporary emergency standards to protect healthcare workers.
The union wants federal officials to ensure hospitals are fully-stocked with protective equipment, like face masks and gowns.
“As nurses were on the front lines every day,” Denise D’avella a nurse at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady said. “So it doesn’t really change how we take care of patients, it’s up to the hospital to have the equipment available to us and have protocols in place so that we can triage these patients better so that we are more likely to stop the potential spread.”
