There is a push in New York State from lawmakers to make sure every worker gets paid sick time.
The proposal is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 2020 state budget.
Under the plan, any business with five to 99 employees would have to provide workers with at least five days of paid sick time. Those with more than 100 employees would have to give seven days.
Small businesses would be required to give five days fo job-protected unpaid sick time.
A study conducted by the Public Welfare Foundation found that upwards of 25% of workers who lost their job or were threatened with loss of employment stemmed from taking sick time in New York.
