A bill has been reintroduced in Albany to make prostitution legal in New York State.
That legislation failed to make it out of committee last year. The law would make it legal to buy and sell sex under most circumstances.
Sex workers have lobbied that current laws only punish them and don’t impact the people who use their services.
The law would correct that issue, they say.
If passed, New York would become the first state to decriminalize sex work.
Nevada is the only state where prostitution is legal, but that isn’t a statewide law protecting sex work.
