Giving back to the community is important for local law enforcement. Throughout the month of December – local cops have been heading out, raising money, and giving back to the communities they serve.
The most-recent example is the Auburn Police Department and Auburn Correctional Facility coming together to give back.
It’s the first time the two have worked together during the holiday season for shop with a cop.
“This is the best time of the year. We love doing this. You see the enjoyment from the officers and correctional officers. I think we probably enjoy it more than the kids,” said Chief Shawn Butler, who was speaking with WSYR-TV.
A total of 12 kids were chosen from the school district, and each were given a shopping cart and list.
“What we try to do is make them purchase gifts for their parents, their siblings and obviously gifts for themselves,” said Joe Villano, President of the Auburn Police Department.
Butler says it’s an opportunity to give back to the community – for the kids and the cops.
“They’re getting the idea to help their family out, and then their friends and stuff like that, so it puts a smile on their face and we enjoy that and that’s what it’s about,” Villano added.
