Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro will meet with New York’s top Republican official about a potential run for Congress against freshman Rep. Antonio Delgado, a Democrat.
State GOP Chairman Nick Langworthy said Monday he plans to meet with Molinaro “soon” to gauge his interest in running for New York’s 19th congressional district, a swing seat Republicans are hoping to win back in 2020.
In a statement, Molinaro, a Republican, confirmed the meeting is in the works but did not suggest whether he will enter the race.
Molinaro, who won a third term as county executive last month, has long had his eye on higher office. He was the Republican candidate for governor in 2018, losing to incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
