Senate move jeopardizes $30M Syracuse grant

Syracuse’s plan to revitalize a struggling neighborhood may be derailed after Senate Republicans voted to cancel unspent grants from a federal equity program, according to Syracuse.com. The city had secured $30 million to transform the area beneath Interstate 81, but only $300,000 had been disbursed before the program was cut.

The bill, backed by President Trump’s administration, includes a provision voiding unpaid grants from the 2022 Neighborhood Access and Equity Program. Advocates warn cities like Syracuse could lose transformative investments intended to rebuild communities disrupted by past highway projects.

The House is expected to vote on the measure by July 4.
