Onondaga legislator’s appearance in Skaneateles Court divides family garage

A Skaneateles town justice on Wednesday ordered Julie Abbott-Kenan to stay away from an apartment attached to the garage of the Skaneateles residence she owns with her husband.

But Abbott-Kenan, 46, an Onondaga County legislator and former broadcaster, can still park her vehicle in the garage at the couple’s 7 Tallcot Lane residence, under an order of protection issued by Town Justice Charles Major.

Abbott-Kenan’s sanctions came after she was arrested during the early hours of Nov. 18, accused of taking a metal bat to her husband’s pickup truck.

The garage apartment is where her husband, Steven Kenan, said he retreated after a fight with his wife that began the night of Nov. 17 inside their 3,466-square-foot, five bedroom waterfront house.

Julie Abbott-Kenan called police around 8:30 p.m. that night and Steven Kenan agreed to sleep in the garage apartment.
