Celebration of life scheduled for 4-year-old Kayden after deadly Lyons fire

Community will gather at local firehouse on Saturday to remember life lost in Lyons blaze

– Staff Report

After family and friends received the devastating news that one of the children who was rescued from the fire in Lyons last week did not survive – the community continued rallying around the Bennett family in their time of need.

Following the fire along Route 14 in Lyons – donations began pouring in to support the family’s immediate needs. Things like clothing, which were destroyed in fire were donated by local residents and families.

Significant monetary donations were made to the family through three different fundraisers online.

The update came on Friday, when Tracy and Clifford Bennett shared their grief – and the update that 4-year-old Kayden had succumbed to his injuries. “We thank you for your support in our time of need and we ask that you keep us in your prayers while we try to recover from such a devastating loss,” the update read.

Two of the Bennett’s three children were trapped in the home and were airlifted with severe respiratory burns.

A celebration of life will be held for Kayden on Saturday, November 30th at the Serven Volunteer Fire House located at 352 US-20 between Waterloo and Geneva. That celebration will begin at 1 p.m. and run until 5 p.m.
