The Syracuse area could be left without a state senator for up to a year if Sen. Bob Antonacci is elected to a seat on the NYS Supreme Court in the upcoming election.
Antonacci, who represents New York’s 50th district, was elected one year ago in a close race between him and Democrat John Mannion.
Over the summer, Antonacci announced he would be running to be a NYS Supreme Court judge.
If he’s elected to the bench this year, his seat as state senator would be vacant.
“I wouldn’t say that it was a decision that was made over night but over the course of the next two months whether it be party leaders or other leaders in the community, other lawyers my family, they said this would be a nice opportunity to serve our community,” Antonacci said.
