Couple unhurt after tree comes down on vehicle in Newark

A Wayne County couple escaped injury after a tree fell on their vehicle Thursday night in Newark.

The Wayne Times reports the tree came down on a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 31 around 9:30 p.m.

Robert and Ivana Wilson, who were reportedly in the vehicle, were unhurt.

They also didn’t have to wait long for help to arrive. The Times reports Sheriff Barry Virts and Chief Deputy Steve Sklenar were in separate vehicles behind theirs.

“It just came down all of a sudden,” Sklenar told The Times. “Luckily, just the top of the tree hit the car. The trunk of the tree was several feet thick. I have no idea why in the world it just broke off.”
