The New York State Licensing Requirements and Job Outlook
Graduates from programs are able to take the Massage Therapy licensing test in either January or August every year. You have until the first of November to apply to take the January test and the first of June for the August test. If you pass the exam, you must have your school show your credentials to NYSED.
The credentials have to be mailed directly from your school. Your license will need to be renewed every three years, and your name and address will need to be continuously updated if there are any changes. You will need to pay $115.00 for the exam and license. If you fail the test and must retake it, you will be charged $45.00 every time. To renew your license, you will also need to pay $50.00 every three years, and your first-year registration will cost $108.00.
Additionally, it is important to note that the job outlook for a massage therapist is determined to grow 26 percent by the year 2026, which is a lot faster than other career fields. Therefore, it is definitely worth going to school for this field of study.
