18th Annual Federweisser Festival coming to Anthony Road on Sept. 21

Anthony Road Wine Company is hosting their 18th annual Federweisser Festival on Saturday, September 21 from noon to five. The festival is a celebration to kickoff the 2019 harvest season. Federweisser- a partially fermented, frothy, young, wine made from the first fruits of the harvest- will be flowing all afternoon. The celebration will feature traditional German fare including bratwurst, sauerkraut, german potato salad and more from Blowin’ Smoke BBQ. Live, original, music will be performed by Delta Mike Shaw Band. Every year, during the festival, the children of the Anthony Road Wine Company family host a benefit bake sale for Keuka Comfort Care Home.

Peter Becraft, head winemaker at Anthony Road, is looking forward to celebrating the coming of harvest, “For Federweisser we fire up the grape press and the first fermentation aromas of the season waft through the cellar. There’s a nervous excitement in the air because we know it’s about to get super busy in the cellar, but this is when the magic happens!”

Ann Martini, Anthony Road Wine Company co-owner, explained that they began the Federweisser Festival in 2001 at the suggestion of the wine-maker at the time, “Johannes Reinhardt from Germany had been with us for a year. He suggested that we do the festival that they do where he is from in Southern Germany.” The festival was a hit, and while it has changed over the years, it promises to be a fun way to celebrate the opening of the harvest season.

Federweisser Festival is a family friendly event with yard games, food, music and fun for folks of all ages. The festival will kickoff at noon, with Delta Mike Shaw Band taking the stage at 12:30PM. Admission is free.
