Village police arrested a Himrod-area man Friday following what they called a road-rage incident on Liberty Street.
Nicholas R. Irwin, 26, was charged with second-degree assault, a class D felony, for allegedly beating up a 76-year-old driver.
Police said several witnesses indicated that Irwin, who was a passenger in a vehicle, got out to confront the driver of the vehicle behind him while they were stopped at an intersection. Irwin allegedly kicked the vehicle, punched the driver in the face and head several times, and slammed the car door on the man’s legs when he tried to get out.
Penn Yan Ambulance personnel checked the victim at the scene, police said. The man suffered minor injuries, including several cuts on his face and a broken tooth, but did not need to be taken to a hospital.
