Man with knife charged at police after attacking woman in Auburn

Police officers tackled a man who came at them with a knife after a domestic disturbance in Auburn, police said.

Auburn Police Department Capt. James Moore said in a Wednesday news release that officers were called to a Cottage Street residence at 5:13 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a report of a domestic incident.

Officers determined that a verbal argument had turned physical and that Christopher M. Liddle, 31, of 5126 Route 34, Fleming, had stomped on a woman’s bare feet with his work boots and continued to harass her by pushing her into a door and punching her in the head.

Liddle fled the scene prior to police arrival, and other responding officers located him in the backyard of a residence at 67 Wall St., Moore said.

Moore said that a brief foot pursuit ensued before Liddle charged at two officers while holding a folding knife. The officers were able to tackle Liddle and place him into custody without further incident.

Liddle was charged with three felonies: menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and tampering with physical evidence. He was also charged with obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a violation.
