A Seneca County sheriff’s deputy has completed training in Onondaga County focused on identifying stalking behavior and investigating cases.
The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office recognized Deputy Christopher Greco Sunday for completing the stalking-prevention seminar.
The seminar’s objectives included recognizing stalking behaviors and dynamics, along with the ways stalking intersects with other forms of victimization.
Participants also were to learn to identify common technologies misused by offenders and 14 risk factors in stalking cases.
Other objectives included applying strategies for working with stalking victims and conducting thorough investigations.
The announcement highlighted the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, & Resource Center, known as SPARC, a federally funded project that provides education and resources about stalking.
The center’s work is aimed at helping professionals identify and respond to stalking, keep victims safe and hold offenders accountable.
SPARC provides professionals across disciplines with information, resources and technical assistance, including help developing policies and protocols.
It also offers local, regional, statewide and national training to grantees and potential grantees of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women.
