REMEMBERING: Scott L. DeLap, 61, of Auburn

Scott L. DeLap

October 13, 1965 – November 3, 2026

Scott L. DeLap, 61, of Auburn, New York, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Born in Auburn, New York, Scott L. DeLap began a life journey that would take him through many accomplishments and cherished memories. Raised in Genoa, NY, he was a proud graduate of Southern Cayuga High School, Class of 1983. He loved learning to build anything alongside his dad, spending time in the garden with his mom, and began his entrepreneurial journey at a young age making maple syrup. He attended Cayuga Community College and then went on to the Rochester Institute of Technology to get his bachelor’s in computer science, starting a lifelong love of computers. As life unfolded, he met the love of his life, Michelle Quinn, and together they built a family, raising three children, and creating a lifetime of memories.

A hardworking and dedicated man, he took pride in providing for his family while continuing to grow and advance in his career from Kodak to Frontier Communications to Pernod Ricard. His determination and work ethic helped shape the life he worked so hard to build. He remodeled each of their homes, designed several backyard garden landscapes, and loved teaching his kids those skills along the way. Scott and Shelly then had many wonderful adventures living as empty nesters in Stamford, CT. His love for food grew into a passion for cooking, where he found joy in experimenting and creating meals in his own kitchen. Scott was an avid sports fan, cheering on the New York Yankees, Syracuse Orange football and basketball, and the Buffalo Bills. He fondly remembered attending many iconic games, including NYC Big East tournaments, the legendary six overtime game, the 2009 World Series, a Final Four, and a Syracuse football game with the whole family, where they beat Clemson at home.

Eventually, his journey brought him back to Auburn, New York, where he settled to be closer to family and the people who meant the most to him. Returning home allowed him to enjoy time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and loved ones. He spent the last years of his life building a beautiful community at Next Chapter Brewpub, supporting the local music scene which he loved so much.

From his beginnings in Auburn to the family, he raised in Webster, NY, the career he built, and his return to Auburn, each chapter helped shape the man he was and the legacy he leaves behind.

Scott is survived by his beautiful bride of 41 years, Michelle Quinn DeLap, three children, Kayleigh DeLap of Webster, NY (Josiah Peterham), Lindsay Berkeley of Moravia, NY (Adam Berkeley), Brandon DeLap of Los Angeles, CA (Jewel DeLap), three granddaughters, Lucy Berkeley, Addison Berkeley, Isabella DeLap, one grandson Scott DeLap, and one special grand dog Birdie. He is also survived by his mother, Ellen Thayer Marshall of King Ferry, NY, brother Greg DeLap of Auburn, NY (Kim), and sister Deborah Kiel of Fairport, NY (Michael). He is predeceased by his carpentry mentors, his father Louis “Bub” DeLap and Uncle Phil Thayer. Scott’s heart was as big as his family’s. Beyond his immediate relatives, he deeply cherished his extended family, his sisters and brothers-in-law, a wonderful group of nieces and nephews, and a sprawling next generation of great-nieces and great-nephews, each of whom held a truly special place in his life.
