On April 29, 2025, Silva responded to an FBI website advertisement and was repeatedly told the girl was 12, prosecutors said.

He went to the meeting and was arrested after handing over the money.

The encounter was a sting, and no minors were placed at risk.

U.S. District Judge Anthony Brindisi also imposed five years of supervised release.

Silva, a Brazilian citizen who prosecutors said was unlawfully present in the United States, will be subject to deportation after serving his sentence.

The FBI investigated, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Walter prosecuted the case.
