A man convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing a child younger than 10 was sentenced Thursday to 23 years to life in state prison, the Ontario County District Attorney's Office announced.
Zachary Rogers received the sentence Nov. 5 after a jury convicted him of attempted predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child.
The jury found Rogers guilty July 16 after a nine-day trial before Ontario County Court Judge Frederick G. Reed.
According to the district attorney's office, the abuse occurred repeatedly over approximately three years while the child was in Rogers' care.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office and Child Protective Services investigated the case.
District Attorney Jason MacBride and Assistant District Attorney Kaleigh Wurz prosecuted the case, and the district attorney's office credited Investigator Tyler Brooks-Lambert's work on the investigation.
Rogers is also required to register under New York's Sex Offender Registration Act, according to the office's earlier announcement of the conviction.
