A state correction officer has pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter in a drunken-driving crash that killed a passenger in Franklin County, according to the New York attorney general’s office.
The officer was remanded into custody and is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8, 2027.
Ryan Bordeau, 25, of Malone, pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter before Franklin County Court Judge Craig Carriero and waived his right to appeal.
Bordeau was off duty when his vehicle left Route 11 in Chateaugay at about 11 p.m. Jan. 27, according to the attorney general’s office.
Passenger Jennifer Hathorn died early Jan. 28, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Bordeau was arrested Jan. 28 and initially released on his own recognizance, and the attorney general’s Office of Special Investigation opened its investigation Jan. 30.
The state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision suspended Bordeau following the incident.
