Rochester Americans forward Riley Fiddler-Schultz is partnering with Foodlink on a food drive at Blue Cross Arena, with donors eligible to receive tickets to a December home game.
The Amerks announced Fidds' Food Drive Monday, saying donations are being accepted through Friday, Nov. 27. Fiddler-Schultz will meet fans and accept contributions at a kickoff event from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the arena's main lobby.
Fans can bring unopened, nonperishable food to collection bins at the Blue Cross Arena box office in the lower atrium. Regular box office hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. On game days, donations can be dropped off from 11 a.m. through the first intermission.
Donors will receive a voucher for two complimentary tickets to the Amerks' Monday, Dec. 21, home game against Utica. The offer is limited to one voucher per person, per transaction. Vouchers can be redeemed at amerks.com/fooddrive using the code provided.
Fans who contribute at the Nov. 9 kickoff can get an autograph from Fiddler-Schultz and have a chance to win Amerks prizes. He and the team will deliver the collected food to Foodlink.
Foodlink President and CEO Julia Tedesco said the organization's network of food pantries and meal programs has seen a significant increase in visitors in recent months.
“Thank you to Riley and the entire Amerks team for making an impact on those experiencing food insecurity in the Rochester region,” Tedesco said.
Foodlink, now in its 49th year, serves as an emergency food hub for a 10-county region. The Rochester nonprofit also works to address hunger's root causes through programs focused on health and economic opportunity.
